Covenant Spotlight

  1. Tell us about yourself.
I grew up in a rural community in Southern Illinois about an hour from St. Louis. In high school, I decided that I wanted to study social work. I went to Evangel University where I learned about the need for social workers in communities to address social and systemic issues and how to integrate my faith into my practice. This led me to move to Michigan in 2018 to get a master’s in social work. Since moving to Michigan, I have enjoyed getting to explore the metro Detroit area. I love visiting local restaurants, coffee shops and Saturday trips to Eastern Market. My hobbies include playing piano, painting, cooking, and baking. Some of my favorite TV shows are Friends, The Office, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
  2. Fun fact about you!
I love plants and currently have about 20 in my apartment.
  3. What were you doing before working at Covenant Community Care/AHEC?
I was working with a community-based nonprofit in the Springwells area of Southwest Detroit doing youth development programming and program evaluation. I was also getting my MSW at the University of Michigan.
  4. How did you get connected with Covenant Community Care/AHEC and/or find out about it?
I found out about Covenant through my work in Southwest.
  5. How long have you been working at Covenant Community Care/AHEC?
I have been with Covenant/AHEC since the beginning of January 2020.
  6. What is it about Covenant Community Care/AHEC that keeps you here?
I love the mission of Covenant and how central it is to the work that we do in the community. One of the many things that keeps me with AHEC is getting to work with students and connect them with opportunities in various health careers.
