Q&A w/ Karla Sanchez

Covenant Spotlight

Karla Sanchez
Maternal Behavioral Health Therapist

  1. Tell us about yourself.

I am a young therapist (but older than you think) and outside of work I like to do things just like any other human does. One of the things I enjoy is watching movies. Although I do not have a favorite movie, I usually opt for the movies that have action or are uplifting or based on true story. I can tell you that scary or suspense movies are not what I enjoy watching. I enjoy being with my friends and talking about deep and meaningful conversations. I like to read books and spend a lot of time in self-development work.

  2. Fun fact about you!

I am a foodie! I have a genuine interest in trying new foods. The taste, texture, and garnish is what I look out for the most. I’ve met a famous chef driving to his restaurant once (about a 15 hour drive) to try his menu and ended up bumping into him. This was a lifetime experience as he is always traveling for TV shows.

  3. What were you doing before working at Covenant Community Care?

I was doing infant mental health work before Covenant. I learned so much about child development during this time.

  4. How did you get connected with Covenant Community Care and/or find out about it?

I lived in the community therefore I knew about Covenant before I became an employee. I was a student at Michigan State University and through one of my internships, I met at that time the CEO of Covenant, Paul Propson. The Michigan Primary Care Association had an annual legislative forum conference in Lansing where many health centers from Michigan came together. Covenant was one of the health centers. I volunteered to take Paul and Dotti to the representatives’ office at that time to discuss policy and advocacy. I was curious to work for Covenant in the summer and ask Paul about opportunities at Covenant and sure enough Paul and Dotti connected me with our Medical Director, Dr. Stryd and Behavioral Health Manager, Liliana Hilbrecht.

  5. How long have you been working at Covenant Community Care?

I was working for Covenant after I received my bachelor’s degree but I decided to go back to school for my Master’s. I have been working with Covenant for 2 years now.

  6. What is it about Covenant Community Care that keeps you here?

Many things keep me here at Covenant, including my team OB/GYN and Michigan Medical. Patient care, the need for services and Centering or group care is what I am grateful to be a part of.
