We are pleased to share that Covenant Community Care has been awarded a $50,000 grant from Direct Relief, in partnership with the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC). The funding we are receiving will support our Homeless Outreach Services in Metro Detroit amid COVID-19, allowing us to obtain necessary supplies to continue care for the homeless, access telehealth services, and respond to the increasing patient need.
From Joslyn Pettway, Covenant’s Acting CEO: “Our Homeless Outreach Program continued to provide outreach services and medical care as the pandemic grew in Detroit. Since March they have witnessed longstanding shelters reduce their bed size to accommodate social distancing, shower centers close, and feeding programs convert to a carry-out delivery method. All of these changes were needed to reduce COVID-19 spread in our city, but these changes had a devastating impact on the homeless population. Places that were trusted service providers for our city’s most vulnerable people were now either unavailable or had limited hours/services. Our Homeless Outreach Program has since worked with local feeding programs to deliver individual meals to unsheltered homeless Detroiters. They also continue to provide wellness checks and telehealth visits from Covenant medical providers.”
We are thankful for the support from Direct Relief and NACHC and for their recognition of the continued need as we confront COVID-19 and care for our community.
