History

The story of Covenant Community Care (Covenant) is the story of a promise.

In the late 1990s, a doctor approached a pastor in Southwest Detroit, and asked “What do people in your church do for health care?” His response was simple “Some of us have it and some of us don’t.” From that day on the doctor agreed to treat anyone that the church sent to her. She made a pledge to a community in need, and Covenant was born.

Covenant is a Community Health Center providing a full range of medical, dental, and behavioral health care services to the people of Detroit and the broader metropolitan region. We have operated as a Federally Qualified Heath Center (FQHC) since 2008. As an FQHC we are mandated to serve the underserved, offer a sliding fee scale, provide comprehensive services, have an ongoing quality assurance program, and have a governing board of directors including board members who are actively receiving care from our clinics. Covenant has expanded to six clinical sites, including a school-based clinic, a mobile school-based dental program and a homeless outreach team.
